This website is a small introduction to my campaign for General Manager of WMUA for the 2026-27 school year. More information about my campaign and overall goals will be present at the official election on Monday, April 13, 2026, in the Cape Cod Lounge of UMass Amherst’s Student Union.

My goals as General Manager fall under two main categories: outreach and engagement. For me, outreach means making information about WMUA and all our departments easily accessible to UMass students as well as community members. One of the biggest complaints I have heard from friends, classmates, and current members of WMUA is the struggle of understanding how to get involved and exactly what it means to be involved in WMUA.

Most people who know of WMUA on some level, whether they have attended just one General Body meeting or went through the process of DJ training and now host a show, know that the core of WMUA is our live broadcasting. However, any involvement beyond broadcasting seems to be lost on many new or prospective members. Based on my own experience and testimony from others, it seems like WMUA currently fails to use social media and our website to inform and attract new members.

Where we do see success in our outreach efforts is tabling, where students can ask current WMUA members any questions they may have. However, for incoming freshmen, transfer students, or simply those who are less likely to stop by our table or come right into the station, joining WMUA can feel like an impossible task. My proposal to remedy this is a more active use of social media, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, in order to present what we as a station do and answer questions before a new member ever enters the station or attends a General Body meeting.

Campaign Goals

  • Engage with the preexisting community within WMUA while working to recruit and train new members.
  • Help Department Directors complete creative projects with support from administration and the General Body.
  • Foster a community where people can feel safe and comfortable in their unique identities.
